Devotional: Hello, My Name is Changed

Main Text: Genesis 32:24–30 Theme: When you encounter the true God — the One who reveals Himself through His names — He changes your name too.

🌅 Opening Reflection

Have you ever felt like your name — your identity — was tied to your past, your pain, or your failures? Scripture shows us that when people truly encounter God, they don’t leave the same. Their names change. Their destinies shift. And so can yours.

🕊️ Knowing God’s Name Reveals Yours

Before God changes your name, He reveals His own. Each name of God is a window into His character — and a mirror for your soul.

  • Jehovah Jireh — The Lord Will Provide   God sees your need before you do. Provision isn’t just what He gives — it’s who He is.

  • Jehovah Rapha — The Lord Who Heals   Healing flows from His heart. He restores not just bodies, but broken spirits and weary minds.

  • Jehovah Tsidkenu — The Lord Our Righteousness   You don’t have to earn righteousness. Jesus became your righteousness so you could stand blameless.

  • Jehovah Shalom — The Lord Our Peace   Peace isn’t the absence of problems — it’s the presence of Jesus in the middle of them.

  • Jehovah Nissi — The Lord My Banner   Victory is found not in your strength, but in His covering and presence over your life.

  • Jehovah Rohi — The Lord My Shepherd   He knows your name, your path, and your pain. He walks with you through every valley.

  • Jehovah Shammah — The Lord Is There   Even when you feel alone, He is present. Always.

💡 Jacob’s Encounter: A Blueprint for Transformation

Jacob wrestled with God — and it changed everything.

  1. Confession Before Transformation   God asked, “What is your name?” Jacob had to admit who he was — a deceiver. Honesty opened the door to healing.

  2. A New Name, A New Destiny   God renamed him Israel — “Prince with God.” When Jacob surrendered, he was redefined.

  3. The Limp That Led to Dependence   God touched Jacob’s hip. He walked differently from that day forward — a reminder that strength comes from God, not self.

  4. Let Go and Let God   Jacob clung to God and said, “I won’t let You go unless You bless me.” To be changed, he had to release control.

🔁 Personal Application

  • What name have you been living under — Broken? Unworthy? Forgotten?

  • Which name of God speaks to your current need?

  • Are you ready to let go of control and let God redefine you?

🙌 Closing Prayer

Lord, I want to know You — not just by title, but by experience. Reveal Yourself to me as Provider, Healer, Peace, Shepherd, and Righteousness. I surrender my old name and identity. Change me like You changed Jacob. Let me walk with You, even if it means walking with a limp — because I’d rather limp with You than run without You. Amen.
